Description

These Christmas Gooey Butter Cookies combine soft, chewy texture with festive flavors, making them the perfect holiday treat. Made with cream cheese and a yellow cake mix base, they’re easy to prepare and packed with holiday cheer, ideal for cookie swaps and family gatherings. With a sprinkle of colorful holiday sprinkles and powdered sugar, these cookies will brighten up any celebration!

Ingredients

8 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 (15.25-ounce) box of yellow cake mix

1/2 cup holiday sprinkles

1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

  • In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter, egg, and vanilla extract with an electric mixer until smooth.

  • Stir in the yellow cake mix until a thick dough forms.

  • Gently fold in the holiday sprinkles, being careful not to overmix to avoid bleeding the colors.

  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes to make it easier to handle.

  • Scoop the dough into 1 1/2-inch balls and roll in powdered sugar until fully coated.

  • Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers are still slightly soft.

  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Notes

  • If you prefer, you can skip the sprinkles for a classic look.

  • For added flair, roll the dough balls in colored sanding sugar for extra sparkle.

  • You can freeze dough balls for later use—just bake from frozen with a slight increase in baking time.
