Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 8 oz (225g) egg noodles (or pasta of choice)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook the egg noodles: Cook egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Brown the ground beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Brown for 6-7 minutes, then remove excess fat.
- Add onion and garlic: Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the onion softens and the garlic becomes fragrant.
- Cook the mushrooms: Add sliced mushrooms and cook for another 3-4 minutes until tender and browned.
- Make the sauce: Sprinkle flour over the beef and vegetable mixture, stir to coat, and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually add beef broth, stirring to avoid lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and paprika. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Finish the sauce: Lower the heat and stir in the sour cream. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
- Combine with noodles: Add cooked egg noodles to the skillet and toss to coat in the creamy sauce.
- Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately.
Notes
- Add extra veggies: Peas, carrots, or spinach work great in this dish.
- Make it lighter: Substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt or use low-fat sour cream for a healthier version.
- Add spice: Red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper can be added for a little heat.
- Use ground turkey or chicken: For a leaner protein, swap ground beef with ground turkey or chicken.
