Description

Doc’s Best Beef Jerky is a homemade, savory, and smoky snack made with tender beef marinated in a rich blend of spices and seasonings. Perfect for camping, snacking, or a protein-packed on-the-go treat, this jerky is easy to make and packed with bold flavors that rival any store-bought version.

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs lean beef (such as top round or sirloin), thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, and brown sugar.
  • Add beef slices to the marinade and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  • Preheat your dehydrator or oven to 160°F (71°C).
  • Arrange the marinated beef slices in a single layer in the dehydrator or on a wire rack in the oven.
  • Dry the beef for 6-8 hours in the dehydrator or 4-6 hours in the oven, checking periodically. The jerky should be firm and flexible but not brittle.
  • Allow the jerky to cool before storing in an airtight container or vacuum-sealed bag.

Notes

  • Store the jerky in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 weeks, refrigerate for up to 1 month, or freeze for up to 6 months.
  • Variations: Add liquid smoke for a smokier flavor, increase red pepper flakes or add cayenne for extra heat, or experiment with spices like cumin or paprika.
