Description

This Easy Black Pepper Chicken recipe is a quick and delicious dish that’s perfect for busy weeknights. Tender chicken breasts cooked in a savory black pepper sauce made with soy sauce, garlic, and optional oyster sauce. With just 30 minutes of prep and cook time, this flavorful dish pairs perfectly with steamed rice or your favorite vegetables. A must-try for spice lovers and a guaranteed family favorite.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for cooking)
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper (freshly ground for the best flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional for extra umami flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger, grated (optional for extra depth)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional for a touch of sweetness)
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the chicken: Season the chicken breasts with a pinch of salt and half of the black pepper. Set aside.
  • Cook the chicken: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts and cook for 6-7 minutes per side or until golden brown and fully cooked (internal temperature should reach 165°F/75°C). Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside to rest.
  • Make the sauce: In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger (if using), sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the remaining black pepper, soy sauce, oyster sauce (optional), and honey. Stir to combine and scrape any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let the sauce simmer for 1-2 minutes to thicken slightly.
  • Combine: Slice the cooked chicken into strips or bite-sized pieces. Return it to the skillet with the sauce. Toss to coat the chicken evenly and let it simmer for another minute.
  • Garnish and serve: Transfer the chicken to serving plates, garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve with steamed rice, vegetables, or a side of your choice.
  • Enjoy: Serve immediately and savor the peppery, savory flavors!

Notes

  • Spicy Kick: Add red pepper flakes or chili paste to the sauce for extra heat.
  • Vegetarian Option: Substitute tofu or tempeh for a plant-based dish.
  • Add Vegetables: Include bell peppers, onions, or broccoli to make it heartier.
