Description

This French Onion Ground Beef and Rice Casserole is the ultimate comfort food that combines savory French onion soup, seasoned ground beef, and tender rice for a delicious and hearty meal. Perfect for busy nights or meal prepping, this casserole is easy to make with minimal ingredients and effort. It’s an all-in-one dish that will satisfy everyone at the table.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can French onion soup
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
  • Cook the Beef: In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain any excess fat.
  • Combine the Ingredients: To the skillet with the cooked beef, add French onion soup, beef broth, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.
  • Add Rice: Stir in the uncooked rice and mix well. Transfer everything into the prepared casserole dish and spread it evenly.
  • Cover and Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and tender.
  • Add Cheese (Optional): If using cheese, remove the foil, sprinkle cheese on top, and bake for an additional 5 minutes until melted and bubbly.
  • Serve: Let the casserole sit for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Vegetable Addition: Add sautéed mushrooms, peas, or green beans for extra flavor and nutrients.
  • Spicy Kick: Stir in red pepper flakes or hot sauce for a spicier version.
  • Cheesy: Use a variety of cheeses like cheddar, mozzarella, or Gruyère for a gooey, melty topping.
