Description

Grilled Cheese Pizza is the ultimate comfort food mash-up, combining the classic grilled cheese sandwich with all the delicious flavors of pizza. Buttery, crispy bread is filled with melted cheese, topped with pizza sauce, and grilled to golden perfection. This fun and easy-to-make dish is sure to be a hit with the whole family, making it the perfect weeknight dinner or snack.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread (sourdough, white, or your favorite)
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • Toppings of choice (pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, olives, etc.)
  • Fresh basil (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Butter one side of each slice of bread generously. This will be the side that gets grilled for that golden, crispy texture.
Assemble the Grilled Cheese Pizza: On the unbuttered side of two slices of bread, spread a tablespoon of pizza sauce. Top with mozzarella cheese and any other desired toppings like pepperoni, mushrooms, or veggies.
Grill the Sandwiches: Place the unbuttered side of the bread down on a hot skillet over medium heat. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the bread is golden brown and the cheese starts to melt.
Flip and Finish: Carefully flip the sandwich and cook for another 3-4 minutes, ensuring both sides are golden and crispy, and the cheese is fully melted.
Serve: Remove from the skillet and let it cool for a minute before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil or a sprinkle of oregano and garlic powder.

Notes

  • Variations:
    • Cheese Options: Try using a blend of mozzarella, cheddar, provolone, or gouda for a different flavor.
    • Vegetarian: Skip the meat and load up with veggies like mushrooms, spinach, onions, or bell peppers.
    • Meat Lovers: Add pepperoni, sausage, or bacon for a heartier version.
    • Garlic Butter: Brush the bread with garlic butter for an extra savory touch.
  • Storage/Reheating:
    • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
    • Reheat in a skillet over low heat or in the oven to restore the crispy texture.
