Ingredients
For the Casserole:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4–5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- ½ cup beef broth or water
- ¼ cup milk (optional, for added creaminess)
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook Ground Beef: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Add Aromatics: Stir in chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook for 3-4 minutes until onions soften.
- Assemble Casserole: Spread beef mixture in the prepared baking dish. Layer thinly sliced potatoes over the beef, slightly overlapping. Season with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika.
- Add Cheese & Liquid: Sprinkle cheddar and Parmesan cheese over the potatoes. Pour beef broth (or water) around the edges. Drizzle with milk for extra creaminess, if desired.
- Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake uncovered for 10-15 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is golden.
- Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
Notes
- Potato Choices: Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes work best.
- Storage: Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
- Reheating: Warm in the oven at 350°F (175°C) or microwave until heated through.
- Make Ahead: Assemble up to 1 day in advance and bake when ready.
