Description

This Pepper Steak with Bell Peppers and Onion is a quick, savory stir-fry packed with bold flavors. Tender steak strips are combined with vibrant bell peppers and onions in a flavorful sauce, making it a perfect dish for a busy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

For the Stir-Fry:

1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
2 tbsp vegetable oil
For the Sauce:

1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp water
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp honey or brown sugar
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp grated fresh ginger
1 tsp sesame oil
Optional: 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes for heat

Instructions

  • Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, water, rice vinegar, honey, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  • Cook the Steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef strips and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • Cook the Veggies: Add the remaining oil to the skillet. Stir-fry the bell peppers and onions for 4-5 minutes until tender but crisp.
  • Combine: Return the steak to the skillet, pour in the sauce, and stir to coat evenly. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Serve: Remove from heat and serve over steamed rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds or green onions.

Notes

  • You can substitute flank steak with sirloin or skirt steak.
  • If you prefer a spicier dish, add more red pepper flakes, chili paste, or sriracha to taste.
  • For a quicker prep, you can slice the steak and prepare the sauce ahead of time.
