Description

These Smash Burgers with Baconnaise Sauce are a flavorful twist on the classic burger. Featuring juicy beef patties with crispy edges and a rich, creamy bacon-flavored sauce, this recipe elevates the burger to a whole new level. Perfect for grilling season, quick meals, or casual gatherings, this easy-to-make burger will quickly become a favorite!

Ingredients

For the Smash Burgers:

  • 1 lb ground beef (preferably 80/20)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Butter (for toasting buns)

For the Baconnaise Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup cooked bacon, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon bacon grease (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Make the Baconnaise Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, chopped bacon, bacon grease (if using), Dijon mustard, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined and set aside.
  2. Form the Burger Patties: Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions (about 4 ounces each). Roll into balls, but don’t press them flat just yet.
  3. Cook the Burgers: Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy griddle over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the beef balls in the skillet and immediately smash them down using a spatula or burger press. Cook for 2-3 minutes until edges are crispy and browned. Flip, season with salt and pepper, and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  4. Toast the Buns: Butter the hamburger buns and toast them in the same skillet until golden brown.
  5. Assemble the Smash Burgers: Spread a generous amount of baconnaise sauce on the bottom of each toasted bun. Place the cooked patty on top and close with the other half of the bun.
  6. Serve: Serve immediately with fries, chips, or a fresh salad.

Notes

  • Cheese Lover’s Version: Add a slice of cheddar, American, or Swiss cheese on top of the patty while it’s still cooking.
  • Spicy Baconnaise: Add sriracha or chopped jalapeños to the baconnaise sauce for an extra kick.
  • Vegan Option: Use plant-based patties and vegan mayo for a tasty alternative.
  • Grilled Version: Grill the burgers for a smoky, charred flavor.
